M-CHAT Autism Screening Tool

The M-CHAT™ (Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers) is a parent-report screening tool to assess risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The assessment is 20 questions and takes about 10 minutes to complete. The M-CHAT is most appropriate for 16–30-month-old children. If your child is 4 years or older, please visit our CAST page.
Once complete, your results will be emailed to you along with recommended next steps.
The primary goal of the M-CHAT is to detect as many cases of ASD as possible. Therefore, there is a high false positive rate, meaning that not all children who score at risk will be diagnosed with ASD.
The M-CHAT is designed to be the first step in a diagnostic process, which may also include the ADOS-2 assessment (a more thorough evaluation of your child conducted in person by one of our highly trained clinicians). A referral from your child’s doctor is required to schedule the ADOS-2, which is intended to be used as a component of their diagnostic process. To inquire about ADOS-2 testing, please click here.
