What happens in a typical ABA therapy session?

A typical ABA therapy session involves several structured components designed to support learning and development. The session begins with arrival and transition time, followed by a mix of structured learning activities and natural environment teaching.

Throughout the session, therapists incorporate play-based learning, social skills practice, daily living skills, and communication activities. Regular breaks are scheduled to maintain engagement and prevent fatigue. Therapists collect data throughout the session to track progress and adjust teaching strategies as needed.

Parent communication typically occurs at the beginning or end of sessions to discuss progress and ensure consistency between therapy and home. The specific activities and their order may vary based on the child’s individual goals and needs for that day.

What's the difference between clinic-based and home-based ABA?

Clinic-based and home-based ABA therapy each offer distinct advantages for families. Clinic-based therapy provides a structured environment with access to more resources, consistent professional support, and opportunities for peer interaction. It often proves more cost-effective and maintains a dedicated space for learning.

Home-based therapy, on the other hand, occurs in the child’s natural environment, allowing for direct implementation of skills in their daily routine. While it offers greater convenience for some families and increased parent involvement, maintaining structure can be more challenging in a home setting. The choice between clinic and home-based therapy often depends on factors like the child’s needs, family schedule, and availability of services in the area.

Do you offer parent training at the Concord location?

Yes, parent and caregiver training is an essential component of our program. We believe in a collaborative approach that includes:

  • Regular progress review meetings
  • Hands-on training in ABA techniques
  • Strategies for implementing skills at home
  • Ongoing support and resources
  • Family education workshops
